The first quarter of 2021 saw a slew of Netflix originals aimed squarely at an Indian audience. Bombay Begums was the platform’s biggest Original release in the first months of 2021. Despite the controversy surrounding the show’s plot, its sophisticated frames and colourful surprises delivered a few powerful blows. There are many original series on different OTT platforms which we all might have skipped.
We’ve created a list of must-watch original series on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, ZEE-5, YouTube, etc.
#1 BOMBAY BEGUMS – NETFLIX
Bombay Begums is a film written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava. It follows the lives of five women in Mumbai, played by Pooja Bhatt, Shahana Goswami, Plabita Borthakur, Amruta Subhash, and Aadhya Anand. It exposes the harsh truths of their work and personal life, as well as their familial relationships.
#2 ASPIRANTS – YOUTUBE
Candidates, a new online series from TVF, follows three UPSC aspirants and friends in Delhi. Abhilash, Shwetketu (SK), and Guri, travel across different timeframes in their lives, offering a wonderful tale of friendship.
#3 THE MARRIED WOMAN
On ALTBalaji, the drama series ‘The Married Woman’ stars Ridhi Dogra and Monica Dogra in key roles. The plot was based on Manju Kapur’s novel by the same name. After the two heroes are introduced to one another, the frames follow a unique story of friendship, romance, and self-discovery.
#4 1962: THE WAR IN THE HILLS – DISNEY+ HOTSTAR
1962: The War In The Hills, stars Abhay Deol as Major Suraj Singh. A war drama series, it tells the story of his battalion, which consists of 125 Indian soldiers who were outnumbered during an epic fight. Furthermore, the drama is based on true events that occurred during the Indo-China War in 1962.
#5 JEET KI ZID – ZEE5
Jeet Ki Zid is a ZEE5 Original action thriller series starring Amit Sadh, Amrita Puri, and Sushant Singh as the key characters. Moreover, it tells the story of a soldier, played by Sadh, who overcomes his life’s most difficult battle thanks to his never-say-die mentality.
