Skincare 101- The Absolute Basics: This is where you start!

Have you ever been on a night out and come back shocked to see the person in the mirror? And, no, it’s not the smudged eyeliner or the disheveled look.
It’s that dull skin.
For some of us, it’s a constant struggle to get that dewy, glass-skin look that everyone else seems to be able to sport seemingly without effort.

We are constantly bombarded by ads about serums! Vitamin C! Anti-aging! Hydration! But it’s so hard to know where to start. We, at SaltSnap, have broken down skincare to its very basics, and we swear, even we’re using the products mentioned here! Today, we are going to start laying down the very foundations that are essential to building a skincare routine of your own. But we also took extra care to make sure that this routine is reasonably priced and easily available in India.

(Hey Psst! Skincare isn’t gender-coded. It’s meant for everyone 😉 )

Here’s a beginner’s guide to skincare with recommended skin care products you can start:

Step 1: Cleanse

Starting from a clean base is important for every skincare routine and every skin type. Imagine your skin down at the microscopic level. Look at all that dirt and grime. Now, imagine it mixing with products.

Ugh!

Thanks, but no thanks. Pro-tip for those out there who use makeup; Use Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

We absolutely swear by it! Not only can it be used by those with normal skin, but it can also be used by those of us besieged by acne. Next, we’re gonna start with a nice cleanser.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Those with normal, combination, oily, acne-prone, and even sensitive skin types will like the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. It leaves skin feeling soft and moisturized after a wash.

If you don’t mind shelling out a few extra bucks, there’s also the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Cleanser suited for all skin types.

It promised a way to maintain the skin barrier and supple skin after every wash. Boy! We weren’t disappointed!

Step 2: Tone

A good toner removes any dirt or grime that your cleanser left behind. However, for those with dry skin, this is a step that you should probably avoid as toners tend to be drying. Those with other skin types from normal to the most sensitive will benefit from the Minimalist PHA 3% Alcohol-Free Face Toner which might look scary but we absolutely loves it!

Another great toner is the Plum Grape Seed & Sea Buckthorn Nutri-Plenish Face Mist meant for all skin types. If you have dry skin, you won’t have to skip out on this step.

Step 3: Moisturize

We consider moisturization to be the ultimate, most important thing you could ever do for your skin. Drinking water is extremely important for hydration, but even then, we need to add moisture topically.

We’d like you to try the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Water Gel; another gem, proven to strengthen the skin barrier. You won’t stop touching your face after using it.

Yet another super-product we recommend is the Dot & Key 72 HR Hydrating Gel also meant for all skin types. It may possibly be the best moisturiser for dry skin.

You can do follow these steps both in the morning and the evening, there is an additional step for the AMs before one goes out to face the day.

That’s right! It’s Sunscreen!

For our sunny Indian weather, why not try RE’EQUIL Ultra Matte Dry Touch Sunscreen Gel SPF 50++++ which offers the highest UVA protection, is sweat resistant, and most importantly, doesn’t leave a white cast.

Lookie here!! Key tip

Our final recommendation for the day is to patch-test every product for at least a week, to look for any adverse reactions. Introduce each product one at a time so that your skin isn’t shocked by the sudden introduction of a variety of products.

We hope that you find the perfect skin that is yours with our curated list of the best skincare products! Happy moisturizing!
