The recent ad campaign for celebrated Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s ‘Mangalsutra’ collection caught the attention of netizens as it featured ladies in semi-nude clothes flaunting the brand’s ‘mangalsutra’ line.
So, yet another incident is added to the Sabyasachi Controversy list making it a fashion controversy. After Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra threatened the designer with arrest, the situation became serious.
Earlier, FabIndia’s Diwali ad, Jashn-e-Riwaaz, an Urdu wording for a Hindi celebration, was disparaged.

A part of the public reacted negatively to the ad campaign, which featured men and women in intimate poses flashing the brand’s jewellery piece.

I’m personally issuing a 24-hour ultimatum to designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. 2. H&M Collection
Sabyasachi debuted a new clothesline in cooperation with fast-fashion retailer H&M earlier this year. The Rs 9,999 price tag, on the other hand, did not sit well with netizens. Moreover, it led to many pointing out that the designs resembled those seen in their grandmother’s closet at home.
3. Obsessed by Boobs
In 2018, Sabyasachi made another statement that caused a sensation on the internet when he said, “In fashion, you have to reinvent yourself every three to five years.” You must be in good physical condition. I’m bored of gaunt faces and stick-thin models right now. “Boobs are my obsession!” Also, individuals accused him of humiliating skinny people as a result of this.
4. Don’t know how to wear a Saree?
In 2018, the fashion designer sparked outrage when he declared during a lecture at a Harvard conference that anyone who tells him they don’t know how to wear a saree should be ashamed. Moreover, the designer was forced to apologise when women criticised the statement for its lack of inclusivity.
