Panchayat Season 2 has finally been released. By the end of season 1, Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra), who took a job in a village in Heartland India out of necessity, had begun to try to make the village his home.
Season 2 starts exactly two months after he climbs up the tank, and he’s nearly completely okay with his surroundings. Abhishek tries his hardest to give Phulera everything he can, less annoyed, more productive, and slowly accepting his existence (with many self-doubts).
All of the shows that have come out of the TVF mill are full of relatability, simplicity, and heart. Panchayat was the first to go above and beyond in terms of expanding the studio’s environment, and Amazon’s involvement further strengthened their resolve to do so. A man who believes he is an underachiever while the world around him is a winner. Isn’t that something we’ve all experienced at some point in our lives? Abhishek Tripathi is a representation, and this is what makes the audience in.

The standard is an overachieving hero recounting his heroic exploits. You, me, and us, either a few years ago, right now, or in the years to come, are heroes who have self-doubt and are pushed to a side where he is made to feel even worse in his thoughts.

So we all know where Abhishek is mentally when we meet him in Season 2 accepting his surroundings partially. Moreover, not whining much about getting out of them. Additionally, Chandan Kumar deserves credit for not writing his primary protagonist in such a way that he is suddenly all in praise, as many recurrent titles do. He’s still the underdog trying to get Phulera to use the restroom.
There is organic humour, everyday issues, a wink to patriarchy. Additionally, a hint at the crooked system, and emotions sprinkled throughout the 8 episodes. The climax is definitely gonna break your heart. Deepak Kumar Mishra (Permanent Roommates 2 and Humorously Yours) knows how to strike a good balance. Nothing dominates the other, which is a good thing. Perhaps an episodic approach helped as well.
Season 2 of Panchayat is really worth watching. It’s a show that’ll make you laugh, weep, and maybe even feel content. And something that makes you feel warm, lovable and should never overlook.
