The UAE has declared that it will switch to a four-and-a-half-day work week, with the new weekend consisting of Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday. So now, there is officially a new UAE weekend. 

Beginning January 1, 2022, all federal government agencies will switch to the new weekend. 

The governments of Abu Dhabi and Dubai have also stated that they will follow the new work week structure. 

The relocation involves new working hours for government personnel, with Monday to Thursday workdays now commencing at 7:30 AM and ending at 3:30 PM and Friday working hours from 7:30 AM-12:00 PM.

From 1:15 PM on Fridays, sermons and prayers will be held across the Emirates. Government employees will have the option of working from home on Fridays. Moreover, scheduling their work hours on a flexi-time basis.

The United Arab Emirates is the first country in the world to implement a national work week that is shorter than the worldwide five-day week. 

The new UAE weekend will begin from January 1, 2022.

The extended weekend, according to the UAE Government Media Office, is part of efforts to improve work-life balance. Also, social wellbeing while also raising performance to boost the country’s economic competitiveness. 

From an economic standpoint, the new working week will better connect the Emirates with global markets. Also, reflecting the country’s strategic place on the global economic map.

All private schools in Dubai will convert to the new weekend. This is according to the KHDA schools authority in Dubai, which claimed this in a tweet on Tuesday. He also states that it is to worki closely with our community to assist a smooth transition.
