Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach have collaborated on the script for the live-action remake of “Barbie,” which Margot Robbie announced in July 2019.
The announcement commemorated 60 years of the well-known doll with blonde hair. On July 21, 2023, “Barbie” will debut.
Robbie is all set to produce the movie through her production company LuckyChap Entertainment. Robbie will play Barbie opposite Ryan Gosling’s character Ken in the movie. Co-producing will be HeyDay Films and Mattel Films.
The live action Barbie comes with a lot of baggage and nostalgic ties.
To pay tribute to the doll’s heritage, the “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” star acknowledged that the movie “comes with a lot of baggage and nostalgic ties.” However, Robbie told British Vogue, “with it come to a lot of intriguing ways to attack it.” When they learn that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing “Barbie,” most people tend to change their minds from “I know what that movie is going to be” to “Oh, well, maybe I don’t…”
According to W Magazine, Diablo Cody rewrote Jenny Bicks’ 2014 Sony script. Also, initially intended for the Barbie franchise to make its big-screen debut. Jenny Bicks had previously written the screenplay for “Sex and the City.”
Story is about a lady who is expelled from “Barbie-ville” because she doesn’t match its ideals of physical perfection. Amy Schumer left the project because of “scheduling conflicts” for her movie “I Feel Pretty,” but she later made it clear that there were also creative differences in how Barbie was envisioned behind the scenes.
For this live-action “Barbie” universe, praise be to the casting gods. Ryan Gosling will co-star as the title character Ken, and Margot Robbie will serve as the film’s producers.
As of February 2021, Barbie is currently in pre-production.
