The D-day has arrived as the much-awaited IPL retention list will be announced tonight. IPL teams will retain some of their players for the upcoming 2022 IPL tournament. Additionally, teams can retain maximum of 4 players. However, according to the rules, all teams can only retain two overseas players which is making it difficult for all the IPL teams. In addition to this, IPL 2022 will see two news teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. These two teams will also be able to choose a maximum of three players. At least two of these players must be Indian.
Rumours suggest that Chennai Super Kings, the 4-times IPL champions and the 2021 winners will retain skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Additionally, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and astonishing opener Ruturaj Gaikwad may just be retained by CSK. The fourth spot is still doubtful, but the team may just go with the English all-rounder Moen Ali. Suresh Raina may be left behind for the Mega Auction which will be held soon. The date for the Mega auction is yet to release.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indian may too leave team’s important player like Hardik Pandya from the retention list. The 5-times champions can retain the Hitman, Rohit Kumar Sharma and the Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah. The team may retain young Ishan Kishan and the West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard. Royal Challengers Bangalore is sure to retain Virat Kohli.
IPL Retention: Many Crucial Players May Be Left For Mega Auction
Delhi Capitals, according to reports, may retain 2021 captain Rishabh Pant. However, players like Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin may be left out of the retention list and will be available for the mega auction. Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad will have own set of challenges as both the teams will miss out on choosing crucial players. Reports say that KL Rahul and Rashid Khan will be banned for a year.
Rajasthan Royals too will have to think about who the team will retain. Joss Buttler, Sanju Samson look like the players that the team will not let go. Additionally, while they would also like to keep Ben Stokes, his less play time leaves the team in confusion. Kolkata as well is not sure if they would retain Eoin Morgan or not, keeping in mind that teams can retain a maximum of two overseas players.
Spectators can watch the live stream of the IPL Retention Auction on Hotsar and Star Sports Network. It will stream from 9:30 pm IST onwards.
