The 26th of November is observed as India’s Constitution Day to commemorate the adoption of the country’s first constitution.
This year celebrates the 72nd anniversary of the historic event in 1949 that signalled the start of a new era. Also today, India is celebrating constitution day 2021.
Moreover, the day is also popular as Samvidhan Divas, National Law Day, or National Constitution Day, and it is observed to promote awareness of the Indian Constitution.
Significance of Constitution Day 2021
The BJP-led government announced November 26th as Constitution Day to honour and recognise the contributions of the framers and to educate the public about the important ideals enshrined in the constitution.
The Indian Constitution adopted on this day in 1949. However, it went into effect on January 26, 1950.
History of Constitution Day 2021
India gained independence on August 15, 1947, and we celebrate Republic Day on January 26, 1950, to commemorate the implementation of the Indian Constitution. The demand of the Constituent Assembly was there in 1934.
The idea was of M.N. Roy, a communist party leader. It was taken up by the Congress party, and the British government finally agreed to it in 1940.
On December 9, 1946, the Constituent Assembly met for the first time before independence. Also, the first president of the Constituent Assembly was Dr Sachchidananda Sinha. The meeting lasted till January 24, 1950.

During this time, 11 sessions was there, each lasting around 166 days.
Between the adoption and implementation of the Indian Constitution, two months set out for full reading. Moreover, during this time, translation from English to Hindi was done.
Dr B.R. Ambedkar being a Chairman of a Drafting Committee created a Draft Constitution on August 29, 1947.
Moreover, the Committee completed their work on November 26, 1949. The process finished on January 24, 1950, when the members of the committee signed two handwritten copies of the document. Moreover, one in Hindi and one in English.
