IIT Bombay’s Parag Agrawal Becomes Twitter’s CEO After Dorsey’s Exit

Parag Agrawal

Another big global tech corporation will be led by an Indian-origin executive. Following the retirement of co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey, Parag Agrawal, an IIT Bombay alumni and Twitter’s chief technical officer will take over as CEO of the social media site.

After hours of wild rumours, Dorsey himself accepts the shift. “Because I believe the firm is ready to move on from its founders, I’ve chosen to quit Twitter…. The board went through a thorough process, weighing all options before unanimously appointing Parag. He’s been my first pick for a long time because of how well he knows the firm and its needs”. In a statement to Twitter employees, he stated.

“Parag Agrawal has been behind every critical decision that helped turn this company around. He’s curious, probing, rational, creative, demanding, self-aware, and humble. He leads with heart and soul and is someone I learn from daily. My trust in him as our CEO is bone-deep,” he added.

More than a half-dozen global tech giants now have Indian-American CEOs, including Google’s Sundar Pichai, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, IBM’s Arving Krishna. Also, Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen, thanks to his appointment.

In a farewell note to Twitter employees, Dorsey endorsed Agrawal wholeheartedly and explained his departure. “There’s a lot of discussion about how important it is for a firm to be “founder-led.” In the end, I believe that’s a significant limitation and a single point of failure. I’ve put in a lot of effort to ensure that this company can break free from its founders”. He went on to clarify.
