House Of Secrets: The Burari Deaths Review: What Exactly Happened?

House Of Secrets: The Burari Deaths Review

Three generations and 11 individuals share a home in Delhi’s Burari neighbourhood. Three generations of people who all appear to have taken their own lives. During the trailer for the frightening new Netflix documentary House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths, a stern, bespectacled man tells the camera, “Obviously, some things went clearly very, very wrong.”

This provides the groundwork for the recently released Netflix limited series, which consists of three episodes that are each about 40 minutes long. The official Netflix synopsis for the project states, “Suicide, murder… or something else?

“The terrible truths and suspicions surrounding the killings of 11 members of a Delhi family are examined in this docuseries.”

If we sum it up in one word, the series is straightforward. This is an extremely heinous crime. This family’s 11 members are all deceased. The specifics are horrifying. But let’s begin there. Those facts are unassailable. Moreover, the number — as well as the confusion over whether these were murders or not — is what has shocked the nation and whipped the country into a media-fueled frenzy over it all.

By the way, this isn’t the only series from India that should be on your watchlist. Check out some more of them here.

The series emphasises how India’s families are incredibly secretive. Moreover, how many families appear to be ‘normal’ and ‘well-functioning’ on the surface. However, most of them are plagued by troubles of all kinds. The series’ teaser depicts the dead family celebrating birthdays and dancing at a wedding.

What happened is still a question.

From the House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths, Leena Yadav, the director says, “Ghar ki baat,  ghar main hi rehni chahiye. This is pounding into our heads. I used to believe that I was the only one who was unhappy and that everyone else had a wonderful family. Growing up, the best aspect for me was learning that everyone has problems. Also, we don’t communicate. It prevents us from knowing many truths and instils in us a specific type of trauma.”

Moreover, House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths, on the other hand, is unique in that it focuses on a single gruesome catastrophe. Which may or may not have been a crime, and which the cops will have to investigate.
