Hundreds of members of the entertainment business gathered in the crowded parking lot of IATSE Local 80 Burbank offices on Sunday evening to pay respect to Halyna Hutchins, a cinematographer slain by a prop pistol on the ‘Rust’ set in New Mexico. Hundreds attended Halyna Hutchins Candlelight Vigil.
Moreover, according to Variety.com, the spirit of “solidarity” was in highlights several times by those in attendance.
Additionally, along with a sense of dissatisfaction that the business is still ignoring the impact of long hours, demanding deadlines, and low compensation among overworked crew members.
However, Local 44 property member Chela Fiorini, who attended the candlelight vigil with her husband, DGA and SAG member David Coenen, stated, “We’re dying at work.”
“My coworkers’ solidarity drew me out here. We’re pushing for a contract that provides enough rest for this crew, which was previously unavailable. And it’s simply unacceptable, and we need to put a stop to it immediately.”
Local 600 national executive director Rebecca Rhine and president John Lindley, as well as Michael Miller, IATSE 4th international VP/department director, motion picture & TV production, and AFI instructor Stephen Lighthill, who was also a mentor to Hutchins, spoke at the vigil, which took place as the sun set.
According to former on-set coworkers, the assistant director who handed Mr Baldwin a loaded prop gun is an industry veteran who has been the target of safety complaints for at least two years.

Moreover, according to ABC News, workers had previously expressed concerns about gun safety to producers.
Also, there had been two accidental gun discharges prior to the deadly incident and one of them included the stunt double.
On Thursday, Joel Souza, the director who also co-wrote Rust with Baldwin, was injured and later released from the hospital. “My heart is torn for her husband, their son, and those who know and loves Halyna,” Mr Baldwin’s statement.
According to an affidavit, he was given the loaded pistol by an assistant director. Moreover, he informed that it was “cold” that means it didn’t have any live ammo before firing it. The fourth day of an investigation has passed.
