Dadi sa of the entire Television fraternity is no more. Surekha Sikri took her last breath on Friday due to cardiac arrest. The veteran actress has three national awards to her name. She will always be remembered for her performances in various roles. She would always portray her roles perfectly, not too much neither too less. Through her primetime soap opera, “Balika Vadhu” she became a household name to everyone. She is also the recipient of the “Sangeet Natak Akademi Award” for her immense contribution to Hindi theater.
Surekha Sikri’s Epic Performances

Tamas:
This movie won her First National Award. This movie was directed by Govind Nihalani Tamas (1988). Surekha Sikri played the role of a Mulsim woman named Rajo. This movie is one of the best works of Indian television completely unparalleled in every sphere of filmmaking.
Here she plays the character who is worried about giving shelter to a Sikh couple because she doesn’t know what her extremist son would do to them. But she eventually gets over her fear and stands up for them.
Mammo
This movie was directed by Shyam Benegal. Here she played the role of Fayyazzi who has to cope up with her curious grandson. Meanwhile, her dominating sister arrives unannounced from Pakistan. Here she won the “Best Supporting Actress – National Award” for the second time. This movie revolves around the story of Mammo who moves to Pakistan during the Partition. After many years, she comes to Bombay to meet her sister and grandson.
Badhaai Ho
Surekha Ji got huge recognition from this character. She also won National Award for this film. This movie deals with pregnancy news. Meanwhile, It turns out to be a social embarrassment as the couple is old in terms of society. Surekha Ji did a phenomenal job in the role of mother, mother in law and grandmother. Theater Performances
Coming from the National School of Drama, we would all agree that she was an outstanding theater performer. Her roles in plays of Alkazi and B.M. Shah showed us how immense a performer she was. She has set a benchmark for theater students in India. Meanwhile, Her performance in Looking Back in Anger and Surya Ki Antim Kiran Se Surya Ki Pehli Kiran Se was proof of how exceptional she was. Some of her popular performances include Sandhya Chhaya, Tughlaq, and Adhe Adhure.
Balika Vadu
Surekha became a household name when she played Dadi Sa, in a television serial called Balika Vadhu. Also, Her performance was so natural that a great number of audiences got hooked on to the show. Though she played the role of antagonist, she won all our hearts through her acting and sternness in the role she played. The show went for many years. It first aired in 2008 and the final episode was in 2016.
