The Expo 2020 United Arab Emirates has officially commenced today and we are curious to see how it unfolds. If you missed it, watch the entire live stream here:
The buildup to the world event has been going on for quite some time. Not too long ago, we saw a terrific ad featuring Chris Hemsworth where we got a glimpse of the supposed grandeur of the Expo. Even with all the hype, a lot of people are still unclear about what it’s all about. We thought we’d clear the air for you, so here goes:
What is Expo 2020? Simplified and Explained.
Expo 2020 Dubai is a World Expo, think of a World Expo as a ‘fair’, BUT for the entire world! You would have certainly visited a local fair in your town or city. There are amusement rides, candy stores, pop-up shops, etc. at a fair. You also see a lot of businesses and brands showcasing their products and services and distributing flyers to encourage visitors to buy from them.
Now take the concept of a fair and expand it to a global level. Now instead of businesses, you have countries showcasing the best aspects of their country like science and technology. The candy stores become restaurant and coffee shop chains. The amusement rides stay but are much bigger and more spectacular. Also, think of the visitors as tourists, investors, or businessmen who visit the stalls and see what each country has to offer. They would then make up their mind to either migrate to the said country or invest in a business there. That’s a world expo in a nutshell. Typically a World Expo takes place once every five years for a period of 6 months.
The United Arab Emirates took the initiative to host the 2020 Expo which unfortunately couldn’t take place in 2020 due to the pandemic.
