There is a touch screen interface installed for all the users to give feedback. Meanwhile, reviews will be checked into while constructing toilets in the future. The toilet will remain open between 6 am and 10 pm every day. NDMC had announced plans for the construction of separate toilets for trans persons, in its annual budget. Also, the Delhi government has directed all its departments to set up toilets for trans people at their offices all over Delhi.

Problems faced by Transgender Community

Trans community was facing a lot of problems without minimum facilities like toilets. This initiative should have started much earlier. Abhina Aher, a transgender activist and founder member of Transgender Welfare Equity and Empowerment Trust, said, “We welcome the move by the NDMC because we know how difficult it is for people like us to access public urinals. When we use the women’s toilet, people make rude comments, and attendants aren’t happy to let us in.” There is also a plan for constructing similar facilities all over Delhi. Rupika Dhillon chairman of the society of people’s awareness care and empowerment said that facilities would help create a safe space for transgenders.

Supreme court verdict

In 2014, the Supreme court recognized the transgender community as a third gender along with male and female. This includes providing all basic facilities for transgender people such as separate restrooms in public locations, including hospitals. “Construction of toilets solely for the third-gender, especially in major marketplaces, has been a long-pending demand from the transgender community in Delhi,” HP Singh, a senior NDMC official dealing with the project, had informed media. Small changes like this help in creating a better place for everyone to live. Hoping to see a lot of productive changes happening in our country in the coming years.
