And it started with a thrilling match between the IPL giants, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and the 5-times champions Mumbai Indians (MI). The game had everything the fans would have expected from the IPL 2021 return game Additionally, Chennai Super Kings was able to win this nail-biting match by 20 runs in a low-scoring game.

CSK was struggling at 24-4 before opener Rituraj Gaekwad smashed 88 runs to reach the score of 156 runs in their 20 overs. All the big names like Suresh Raina, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to make a mark in the opening match in the UAE. However, with some brilliance from the young opener, CSK was able to give the opponents a respectable target to chase. Besides, Ambati Raydu, who also showed some promise of a good performance, had to retire hurt as the ball hit him on his elbows.
Adam Milne, Jasprit Bumrah, and Trent Boult were the stars with the ball, taking three wickets each.

Mumbai Indians Batsmen Failed To Make An Impact In The IPL 2021 Return Opener

In the second innings of the match, Mumbai Indians innings started to collapse, with the team losing their first wicket in the form of Quinton de Kock at a mere 17 runs on the scorecard. In no time, they were struggling at 94-6. The speedsters Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar made sure that chasing 157 would not be a walk in the park for the hard-hitters of Mumbai Indians.

MI needed to score 39 runs in their last two overs. But, with some fantastic bowling by the West Indian bowler Dwayne Bravo and Shardul Thakur, Mumbai Indians could only make 18 runs in the last two overs, with CSK winning the match in some style by 20 runs. Saurabh Tiwari also scored a half-century in the match. However, it was not enough to make them reach the line.

With this win, the Men in Yellow have reached the top of the IPL table and have announced their return in IPL 2021. The player of the match award was awarded to Rituraj Gaekwad for his outstanding innings.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face their arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in today’s fixture.
