Over the next 24 months, streaming service Amazon Prime Video will increase its investment in India and distribute 41 new films and series, including the Vidya Balan-led film Neeyat, Shahid Kapoor’s series Farzi, and Madhuri Dixit-Maja Nene’s Maa.
The slate was unveiled as part of the Prime Video Presents India event in Mumbai, which was also attended by Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, filmmakers Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, Rohit Shetty, and Karan Johar, who served as the evening’s host.
Kelly Day, VP International, Amazon Prime Video, stated that their goal for the next five years is to invest twice as much as they did in the previous five years because India is one of their “most strategic markets.” “Our Indian Originals are performing admirably. We’re in a unique position to provide local content that we’re creating. We’re ecstatic, and this is only the beginning. Our goal is to treble our investment over the next five years “She mentioned this without going into specifics.
The future of streaming, according to Day, lies in worldwide expansion, with India leading the way. “One of the really interesting things for us is that India is an innovation hub,” she continued.
