AB de Villiers | 5 Best Innings By The South African Batsman

One of the cricket greats, AB de Villiers, announced his retirement from all formats of the game yesterday. The entire cricketing world came forward to wish the 360 degrees player a very happy retirement and in appreciation of the kind of player and person he is. The South African legend is considered one of the best to play the shorter formats of the game. He was a player of immense value not only for the Proteas but also for his IPL team RCB. Hence, Virat Kohli, with whom de Villiers has had some of the best IPL partnerships, posted photos on his social media account to praise him.

Let us look to some of the most beautiful innings of AB de Villiers for the South African team and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

South Africa vs. West Indies (2015)

What a match for the South African batting wizard. At the biggest stage of cricket, the 50-overs World Cup in Australia, de Villiers hit a mammoth 162 runs off only 62 deliveries. Yes, you read it right, only 62 deliveries. The innings helped Proteas score 408 runs in the game and helped them win the match easily.

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Mumbai Indians (2015)

2015 was a great year as a batsman for ABD. His quick 133 runs off 59 deliveries helped RCB to score more than 200 runs in 20 overs. At one point, the team was struggling at 20/1. However, the brilliance of both Virat Kohli and de Villiers saw to it that RCB achieved a win.

Proteas vs. Australia (2008)

Coming to 2008, when de Villiers was a young player and had started to play like a senior. South Africa required 414 runs to win the test match at the Perth. The legendary batsman kept his cool and scored a match-winning century with some support from the young JP Duminy. He was awarded the Man of the Match for this outstanding batting display.

 RCB vs. SRH (2014)

SRH is famous for defending low-scoring games because of their bowlers. It was a close match again when RCB was struggling to chase 155 runs. However, a brilliant inning by de Villiers made sure that RCB won the game.

South Africa vs. Australia (2012)

Sometimes, it is not about hard-hitting and scoring quick runs. AB de Villiers proved to the world in 2012 that he can also bat for hours in the longer format. While he scored 33 runs without hitting a single boundary, it was a game-changing innings for the Proteas. He faced 220 deliveries and helped South Africa save the match.
