We are in the 21st century but we don’t think our film industry realizes that. Racism in Bollywood has been going on forever. Only light-skinned actresses come on screen. Also, having a certain body type that is appealing in terms of beauty is a must. Meanwhile, South Indians have weird accents. But that’s not the case. Contrary to popular belief, South Indians speak spectacular English and this stereotype must end immediately. People often view northeasterners as ‘foreigners’ and ‘Chinese due to their ethnicity. They have already faced issues related to racial abuse in real life due to this. Promoting it on the Big Screen makes it worse. Here are 5 Times Bollywood Movies Were Racist.
1. Beyonce Sharma Jaegi in Khaali Peeli:
The first time we heard this song, we were all stunned. Isn’t this the same Bollywood where celebrities protested with ‘Black Life Matters’? Yet, the lyrics shamelessly read, “Tujhe Dekh Ke goriya, Beyonce Sharma jayegi”. Twitter users spotted the red flag and it went viral. Directors would have had to face a tight lawsuit if Beyonce filed for using her name.
2. Deepika’s accent in Chennai Express:
Every South Indian character has a weird accent in most of the movies. This is a typical stereotype which they have and they portray it as a slow English speaking accent. Meenamma from Chennai Express is an example. Generalizing a South Indian accent is weird and that’s not how we talk in South India.
3. Hadh Kar Di Aapne
After watching this movie we can actually say “Hadh Kar Di Aapne“. This movie is filled with sexist and racist jokes. What’s astonishing is that this was normalized. This movie also had body-shaming problems. One scene shows how Govinda reacted to a black woman wearing the clothes he gave Rani Mukarji which tells us how this movie normalized racism.
4. Housefull
This movie is said to be one of the most humorous movies in Bollywood. The audience showed a great response, and the makers decided to turn it into a movie franchise. But at the same time, this movie has sexist and racist humor. The way Aarush performs an elaborate song and dance that illustrates the baby’s African origins is weird and offensive.

5. Kambakkht Ishq
In this movie, Akshay Kumar puts on blackface and a terrible wig to disguise himself. Makers wanted this to be a comedy scene, but it was highly racist and unfunny. And in the airport scene, Akshay Kumar’s character sees an opportunity to get cozy with an airport official as she says he is selected for a private security check. But later a black woman is made to do his security check and the way they show this scene is derogatory. This one adds to the long list of Racist Bollywood Movies.
