5 Indian Movies That Failed To Get An Oscar Nomination

Over the years, the Indian cinema industry has expanded dramatically. It has and is producing some excellent content that is receiving praises not only in India but also by a broad audience. However, some of them did do wonders but still could not get am oscar nomination.

Here is a look at FIVE brilliant Bollywood films that failed to receive an Oscar nomination over the years.

1. Gully Boy

Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar and starring Ranveer Singh as a rising street rapper, was eliminated from contention for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars after the Academy released shortlists for nine categories. 

The film did not make it into the top 10 movies that will move on to the 92nd Academy Awards voting process.

2. Taare Zameen Par

The film, directed by Aamir Khan (who also featured in it), opened Indian society’s eyes to the problem of dyslexia and the country’s inadequate educational system. The film stars Darsheel Safary. It is named as the best film on family welfare by the National Film Board of Canada.

3. Eklavya 

Featuring a star-studded ensemble cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Sharmila Tagore, Sanjay Dutt, Vidya Balan, Raima Sen, Jackie Shroff, Jimmy Sheirgill, and Boman Irani, the mystery drama film was in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s direction.

4. Paheli 

Amol Palekar was the director of this fantasy romance drama. It starred Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji in pivotal roles. The same year, Mahesh Dattani’s English-Telugu film Morning Raga entered as an independent entrant. It stars Shabana Azmi and Perizaad Zorabian.

5. Newton 

The movie is written and co-directed by Amit V. Masurkar, and stars Raghubir Yadav, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, and Rajkummar Rao. The comedy-drama focused on the reality of Indian elections in outlying areas. Audience praised it so much for its original yet realistic plot.
